About the World Energy Council Austria
Energy systems worldwide are undergoing a transformation. Still, around 750 million people lack access to electricity. In emerging economies, a reliable and sufficient energy supply is crucial for enabling economic growth and social development. At the same time, the internationally targeted reduction of CO₂ emissions requires a profound transformation of energy systems. The European energy landscape is shaped by the dynamic developments of the energy transition.
For over 100 years, the World Energy Council, headquartered in London, has been at the forefront of the global energy debate. It serves as an international think tank and action platform dedicated to ensuring secure, sustainable, and affordable energy for all. As an UN-accredited organization, the World Energy Council brings together over 3,000 public and private organizations across nearly 80 countries.
All major international players in energy policy and industry are part of the World Energy Council. Through scientific studies, analyses, and forecasts, it provides policymakers, businesses, and researchers with valuable insights for forward-looking energy policies. The focus is on balancing the interests of people, the environment, and the economy—with the ultimate goal of shaping a sustainable, efficient, and economically viable energy future.
In Austria, leading companies, associations, and government entities are members of the World Energy Council Austria. The national organization supports global, national, and regional energy strategies through high-level events on topics such as energy security, the energy transition, and future technologies. Additionally, studies and rankings provide insights into the current energy landscape within an international context.
Interdisciplinary dialogues between member organizations, as well as the promotion of young energy professionals, play a central role in shaping Austria’s energy future.
