Insights into Tomorrow’s Energy Technology: Site Visit to Siemens Energy in Weiz

Recently, the World Energy Council Austria, together with Oesterreichs Energie, had the unique opportunity to visit the Siemens Energy facility in Weiz. The visit was made possible through the kind invitation of Ales Prešern, CEO of Siemens Energy Austria and Vice President Siemens Energy Southeastern Europe.

The delegation was led by Barbara Schmidt, Secretary General of Oesterreichs Energie, and Gerhard Gamperl, Secretary General of the World Energy Council Austria, and included a number of Young Energy Professionals (YEPs). For many participants, it was the first time experiencing the operations of a world-leading production site up close – and the level of enthusiasm was evident throughout the visit.

Weiz: A Tradition of Innovation

With more than 130 years of experience in transformer manufacturing, the Weiz facility represents a remarkable blend of craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. This fusion enables the production of key components that are essential for shaping a sustainable energy future.

Transformers play a crucial role in the efficient transmission of electricity across voltage levels and are indispensable to grid expansion and global electrification. The expertise and innovation on display in Weiz make it a significant contributor to the global energy transition.

Appreciation and Outlook

We extend our sincere thanks to Ales Prešern and the entire Siemens Energy Weiz team for their outstanding hospitality, the fascinating technical insights, and the opportunity to witness their innovative capabilities and craftsmanship in action.

Visits like this clearly demonstrate the value of fostering dialogue between industry, emerging professionals, and energy institutions — because only through collaboration can we successfully shape the energy transition.
