WHEN WILL ELECTRICAL MOBILITY TAKE OVER?
The mobility transition is in full swing and everyone is talking about electromobility. There is much discussion, but the change from internal combustion engines to electromobility is proceeding slowly. The demand for electric cars – at least in this country – is currently still low. In addition to the short range and high price, too few charging points and the duration of the charging process are deterrent factors. Accordingly, the majority will also opt for a classic drive system when they next buy a car.
Despite all the current scepticism about electromobility among consumers, it remains undisputed that mobility behavior must change for reasons of climate protection. Sustainable mobility concepts have an important role to play in combating climate change. Electromobility is regarded as a central key technology.
On the occasion of the WEC Austria Workshop “Electric mobility in the field of tension between tradition and innovation”, we took up this multifaceted debate with a large number of guests at the EVN-Forum on February 18th, 2020.

The workshop was hosted by Mr. Günther Brauner, Vienna University of Technology.
The workshop revealed that there is not just one obstacle to electromobility, but that many factors are currently still dampening the ramp-up of electromobility. Not only the low-cost availability of electric mobility for many people, but also the existence of the appropriate infrastructure must be guaranteed in order to enable a wide spread of this form of mobility.
